Dr. Hecht is Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, Director of Research at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, and Osher Foundation Endowed Professor for Research in Integrative Medicine. Dr. Hecht is trained in Internal Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology. Dr. Hecht’s research program at the Osher Center has focused on mind-body interventions, particularly meditation and yoga, using a psychoneuroimmunology approach to studying the effects of these practices on the endocrine, metabolic, and immune systems. His recent research also involves incorporating integrative medicine approaches into lifestyle interventions targeting conditions such as obesity and diabetes. He has led two Center for Excellence in Research on Complementary and Alternative Medicine grants from NCCAM. Dr. Hecht has also practiced yoga and meditation for more than 30 years, which helped form his interest in rigorous research on the biological effects of these practices.
